Galaxy's Dan Kennedy unlikely to play Saturday, and Giovani Dos Santos, Ashley Cole uncertain

March 15--The injury-plagued Galaxy, down three starters just two weeks into the Major League Soccer season, began the mending process Tuesday. But the team is unlikely to return to full strength for at least a month.

Midfielder Giovani dos Santos and defender Ashley Cole both trained Tuesday but goalkeeper Dan Kennedy did not, making it unlikely Kennedy would play Saturday against the unbeaten San Jose Earthquakes at the StubHub Center.

Dos Santos and Kennedy both came out of the Galaxy's regular-season opener 10 days ago with what the team has described as muscle strains. Neither traveled to Colorado for last Saturday's loss to the Rapids.

Cole did make the trip but did not play -- a precaution, the team said, after Cole reported soreness in his back. Neither Dos Santos nor Cole trained in full Tuesday, leaving their status for Saturday uncertain.

Alan Gordon, who missed the Colorado trip with a neck injury, is reportedly close to game-ready, but center back Leonardo, the team's defender of the year in 2015, is out at least a few more weeks after undergoing surgery to clean up cartilage in a knee.

Saturday's game, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m., is the last for the Galaxy (1-1) before a two-week international break, during which the U.S. national team will play two World Cup qualifiers.
