Gail Porter stranded in Spanish hotel after coronavirus lockdown across country

Scots TV presenter Gail Porter is stranded in Spain after the country went into a two-week coronavirus lockdown.

The star has been at a Marbella resort since last Monday and Spanish authorities declared a state of emergency on Saturday as they ramp up efforts to tackle the spread of the potentially deadly bug.

Shops, restaurants, bars, clubs and all but essential services have all been shut across the country, which is the second worst-hit by the pandemic in Europe.

As of today, there are 8,744 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Spain and the number of deaths has risen to 297 over the past 24-hours.

After the Spanish Government issued sweeping restrictions, all residents were instructed to stay at home and self-isolate, whether they were showing symptoms of the virus or not.

They are only allowed to go outside if they are going to a store or pharmacy to buy essential supplies, going to work, or going home.

Jet2 and Easyjet have both pledged to get travellers home to the UK, but there is a massive backlog and troops are now being stationed at Spanish airports to control the situation, as thousands of panicked holidaymakers flock to try and catch flights.

The advice being given to those on holiday in Spain is to sit tight at their accommodation and follow the guidelines from staff.

So it's good to see Gail, 48, is doing what's right, as well as keeping calm and updating her fans while she faces a surreal experience in the sun (which she can still see from her balcony, before you all say anything).

And the Edinburgh-born star is in good spirits, as she revealed on Instagram alongside a picture of two toilet rolls.

She captioned the post: "Trade a flight home from Spain for two loo roll???"

Stay safe, Gail!

A total of 153 patients have now been diagnosed with  Coronavirus in Scotland - after 32 new cases were confirmed yesterday.

Scotland is not planning on isolating over-70s, the country’s Health Secretary has said, amid criticism of the UK Government’s communication and strategy.

Jeane Freeman, Matt Hancock's counterpart in Scotland, said the  Scottish Government were not planning on isolating the elderly but would instead be “asking them to reduce social contact”.

A Scottish Government update on the number of coronavirus cases in Scotland will be released at 2pm today.
