Gaffer unhappy with first half showing despite four goal blitz against County

Despite blowing Ross County away on Saturday Gary Holt says it was a game of two halves.

The gaffer says his side were not their usual self in the first half and although they had scored the two goals Holt felt his players could have done better.

Commenting after the game he said: “Clean sheet, three points, four good goals but performance wise? First half, I thought we were off it. We had gone off our game plan as such. Don’t get me wrong Ross County are not going to just let you play but the pleasing thing was we came in two goals up, after two good goals. We weren’t getting Lyndon in the areas where he could get on the end of things. We were crossing too deep, which was alien to us and not conducive to getting us the goals.

Holt and his assistant Davie Martindale spoke to the players at half-time and they are content that the message they wanted to get across was delivered.

He added: “The players are actually giving you the info that they are not happy, they know they are not playing well and doing the things that you asked them to do. So you fine tune it at half time and put a wee rocket up one or two who you know can take it and who will drive the team on and I think we got that second half and could have scored a few more.”
