Gaelic football stars hospitalised after railings snap on their open top bus parade

Nine players Gaelic football players have been injured after falling off a lorry while celebrating a cup final win.

Enniskerry GAA Junior B team were lauding a local victory in Enniskerry, Ireland when the accident happened.

Shocking video footage shows the players joyfully hold the trophy, before jumping up and down on a stationary vehicle and leaning on some railings.

The lorry then suddenly accelerates and a number of the players fall from the top on to the road as the railings snap.

The video circulated on social media shows the players falling from the open top bus parade, with many hitting the road.

Those with injuries were rushed to Tallaght and St Vincent's hospitals in Dublin for treatment.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, the police service for the Republic of Ireland, said: "The incident occurred in Enniskerry Village this evening at approximately 6.30pm.

"It’s understood up to nine people were injured and removed from the scene by ambulance to Tallaght and St. Vincent's Hospitals for treatment. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"The road was closed for short time but has since reopened. Enquiries are ongoing."

Earlier in the day Enniskerry won their first ever Junior B title in the Philip Doyle JBFC Final after beating Avoca with a score of 2-10 to 10 points.
