Gadget (GAD) Position in College Football 26 Explainer Guide

College Football 26 is very much a modern football game. When I say that, I don’t mean “modern” in the sense that it’s a newer game made for contemporary audiences, but more so that it is designed to reflect the game of football — more specifically, the collegiate flavor of it — as it is played today. The days of straight up “hut, hut, hike” are done, and as time has gone on, the sport has become more tactical and fluid than it’s ever been, at every level. In turn, you’ll likely see positions that look foreign to you.

This is especially true on defense. In fact, defense has so many different roles that one member of the CFB 26 community created an entire formation guide detailing where everyone lines up in every defensive formation. But this isn’t exclusive to defense — there are some roles on offense that might confuse the casual sports gamer/football fan upon first glance. The “GAD” is a prime example.

What Is A GAD In College Football 26?

So, if you’re not familiar with the position, the question you might have is: What is a GAD in the first place? To put it simply, GAD is short for “gadget.” This refers to a player who can play multiple offensive positions. These positions can be half back (running back), full back, or wide receiver. One can say they can be used as a tool in a variety of different plays, like a “gadget” of some kind (I’ll see myself out).

Now that you know what a “gadget” player is, in what plays do they show up? Well, when choosing a play on offense, you can actually use your right stick to sort packages by the personnel they use. One of them will say “Gadget at HB”, meaning they will line up where the running back typically is. Another will say “Slot Gadget,” meaning they will line up as a slot receiver in the space between one of the primary receivers and the offensive line.

All in all, a “GAD” is a depth chart position mostly used for a wide receiver who can line up and be at least somewhat effective in another position. Some formations, such as the Wildcat, will make great use of these players and will use them as a traditional running back instead of a receiver.

If you have a GAD player on your team, that is essentially the game telling you that they’re very versatile. And if they have good physical attributes, they’ll be invaluable to your team when trying to deceive your opponent.
