Gaby’s Deli is loved by the left

Perhaps Marina O’Loughlin only visits Gaby’s Deli (Gaby’s Deli – Corbyn’s answer to Granita, 14 September) at the quietest times. This refreshingly non chi-chi cafe has long been a favourite haunt of lefties and liberals, especially after a march or rally. It’s an old joke that, if you sit there long enough, you will meet someone you know. Me and mine certainly have. Usually at least half of the customers are female, sometimes more depending on the time of day. Famous folk wander in, and not just those appearing at the adjacent theatre, but discretion is assured. It’s a London institution that attracted a great deal of affectionate support when threatened with closure a few years ago. Of all the excellent food, the salt beef special does it for me.
