'Gabriel, Partey and Aouar incoming!' - Arsenal fans in meltdown after Edu pictured on the phone

Arsenal fans have taken to social media to respond to an image posted by Edu's son.

The Gunners technical director has assumed more responsibility over Arsenal's transfer dealings after the departure of head of football Raul Sanllehi, and has reportedly been in talks over several players in recent weeks.

Mikel Arteta's side are keen to strengthen in key areas this summer with a new centre-back, a central midfielder and a creative attacking player all on the radar.

Talks to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes are understood to be in progress, with Arsenal confident of landing the Brazilian ahead of Napoli and Manchester United.

The ultimate lowdown on Houssem Aouar

Reports claim that a fee of around £22.6million has been agreed with the Ligue 1 side, and the defender is now poised to put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Elsewhere, Gunners boss Arteta is desperate to land a dynamic midfield to stiffen the spine of his side, with Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey the club's number one target.

Atletico remain adamant, however, that Arsenal must meet the player's full £45million release clause before the Ghanaian is sold.

Recent reports also claim that the Gunners are interested in signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

The 22-year-old has won admirers across Europe after his performances in the Champions League, and Arsenal have reportedly opened talks to sign the highly-rated star.

Amidst the various links to players, Arsenal supporters took to social media after Edu's son Luigi posted an image on Friday evening.

Luigi, who plays for Arsenal's Under-18 side after joining last year from Corinthians, uploaded a picture of his father on his Instagram story, with the timestamp given as 23:22pm.

The image showed Edu in the middle of a conversation on his mobile phone, with the caption: "Focado", which translates from Portuguese to 'focused'.

Arsenal supporters immediately flocked to Twitter to voice their excitement and speculate on whether the Brazilian was carrying out transfer negotiations to sign some players.

One fan tweeted: "Don Edu taking us to the top!" Another wrote: "GABRIEL MAGALHAES, PARTEY AND AOUAR INCOMING."

Elsewhere, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has warned his squad not to rest on their laurels ahead of the club's return to pre-season.

The first-team squad are set to return to training this weekend to prepare for the upcoming season and Community Shield clash against Liverpool.

And Arteta has demanded to see the same hunger and desire that his players showed at the end of the previous campaign, as they lifted the FA Cup against Chelsea.

“I have to look at the players, how they come from holidays, how they come after winning, I want to see that reaction,” he told Arsenal Digital.

“You know, are they going to be a little more relaxed because we’ve done something or are they going to come with ‘Okay, this is nothing that we’ve done. We have to go to the next level, we have to apply ourselves better, we have to improve in a lot of areas and we have to dominate many other aspects of the game that at the moment we cannot control?’

“If that is the mindset, then I am very positive that we will be sitting here in a year’s time really happy. But I hope we take that road straight away.”
