Gabriel mistake exposes Granit Xhaka as Bernd Leno blames Arsenal teammates

Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Friday, December 18.

Gabriel red asks Xhaka question

Gabriel Magalhaes was shown a red card in Arsenal 's 1-1 draw with Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Brazilian defender was given two yellow cards in the draw in north London - which was the seventh sending off given to Mikel Arteta's side since he took over almost 12 months ago.

Gabriel apologised via Instagram for his mistake on Wednesday evening; something Granit Xhaka hasn't done since his red card against Burnley recently.

This does raise the question to why Xhaka hasn't said sorry to the Gunners supporters after his moment of madness against the Clarets.

Saka's brilliance reveals truth for Arteta

Bukayo Saka was once again brilliant for Arsenal in their 1-1 draw with Southampton earlier this week.

The 19-year-old's solo run played a big part in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 's equaliser for the Gunners, after he laid it off for Eddie Nketiah - who then set up the eventual goalscorer.

Saka was awarded the Man of the Match for his display at the Emirates, but it has revealed a worrying truth for Arteta.

The England international has quickly established himself as Arsenal's most important player, with some of the more experienced pros struggling to perform in this underwhelming season.

Leno reveals who is to blame

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has insisted him and his team-mates must shoulder the blame for their poor run of form recently, rather than Arteta.

The Gunners boss has come under increasing pressure recently, with the club suffering their worst start to the season in 46 years.

However, Leno told Sky Sports Germany: "That's not an issue at all. The coach can do the least thing for us being in this situation.

"If you look at how we sometimes walked around on the pitch, then the only fault lies with the players. I have to say that honestly. We get red cards, make mistakes, are disorganised."
