Gabriel Martinelli sets target amid first-team squad inclusion - and Arsenal fans will love it

Arsenal wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli has said that Unai Emery and Edu have been key in his settling in period.

The teenager was the Gunners' first signing of the summer transfer window, joining from Brazilian outfit Ituano in a deal worth £6m and got a chance to impress during the pre-season tour in the United States.

Martinelli marked his debut with a goal in a 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids and impressed head coach Emery enough to make his Premier League bow away at Newcastle United on the opening weekend of the new season.

And the 18-year-old has opened up on his relationship with Emery as well as how Edu is helping to motivate the squad.

"The coach is a great person, and I’m learning a lot from him on a daily basis," Martinelli told Lance - as per Sport Witness. "I try to do my best in training so that, when I have the opportunity, to grasp it with everything.

"Edu is an exceptional guy, a great professional, victorious and who made history with the Arsenal shirt.

"We talked a lot when I arrived and, undoubtedly, having a person like him around motivates us more and more.

"I was received in the best way possible. Being very young, I got a little shy, because I only saw these players on television, on video games.

"But they welcomed me very well, making me feel at home and I try to learn from them on a daily basis."

Following the departure of Henrikh Mkhitaryan on loan to AS Roma, the door is wide open for Martinelli - as well as other Arsenal youngsters - to make an impression in the coming months.

He is not only listed as a first-team player on Arsenal.com but is also in the Europa League squad which suggests fans could see a lot of the Brazilian as the season progresses.

Martinelli has set himself and the team a target for the 2019/20 campaign - and it will delight Arsenal supporters.

"As it’s my first season, I want to show my potential to steady myself at the first team," he added. "I know the squad is packed with great players, but I know what I can do and my goal is to help the team.

"I think we can achieve great things this season by winning titles and marking our name in Arsenal’s history."
