Gabriel Martinelli sends five-word message to new signing after Arsenal confirm transfer

Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has welcomed new signing Marquinhos with a message on his Instagram story following official confirmation from the club.

The Gunners confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old on Monday afternoon, and football.london understands the deal is a four-year contract with an option for a further year, for a fee believed to be in the region of £3 million. Marquinhos was part of the squad that won the Campeonato Paulista in 2021 after making his first-team debut for Sao Paolo.

The Brazilian forward has represented his home nation at under-16 and under-17 levels and is set to join up with his new teammates in pre-season. Several of Marquinhos' fellow countryman already play at the Emirates, with Martinelli already welcoming the young forward after his move to the Emirates was confirmed.

Arsenal are expected to have a busy summer transfer window despite missing out on Champions League football, with Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen his attacking options. Alexandre Lacazette, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Mateo Guendouzi have all left the club on permanent deals, whilst Matt Turner and Marquinhos have moved to the Emirates.

The futures of Nicolas Pepe, Lucas Torreira, Hector Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Pablo Mari are all in doubt ahead of next season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lacazette need to be adequately replaced, with Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus being heavily linked with a move to north London, a move which could see another Brazilian join Arteta's side.

Martinelli quickly welcomed his fellow Brazilian Marquinhos to the Gunners after posting on his Instagram story. The 20-year-old added a message to his post that read: "Welcome brother, we are together."

Martinelli made the same move to England from Brazil back in 2019 and will be able to offer a lot of help to the club's new South American star. Marquinhos sent a farewell message to Sao Paulo in an Instagram post in which he thanked the club and the fans admitting he will 'never not be a fan' of the Brazilian side.
