Gabriel Martinelli's squad number hint in first Arsenal training session of USA tour

Gabriel Martinelli looks set to be a part of Arsenal's first team squad this season after it emerged that he is to be handed a squad number.

The 18-year-old completed a summer switch to the Emirates Stadium after leaving Brazilian side Ituano.

The youngster was handed a boost after he was named in the Gunners' 29-man squad to take part in the USA pre-season tour, while it appears he has been handed a further boost.

Pictures have emerged of Martinelli training with Unai Emery's squad with the number 35 on his shirt.

While it remains to be seen if this will be his permanent squad number, it would be a huge boost to the 18-year-old's first team prospects if he is handed the number - as players outside of the first team fold have been training without numbers.

Martinelli is regarded as one of Brazil's hottest prospects and it's thought that his signing marks the very beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Gunners in the transfer market.

The prospect is the result of Arsenal's pursuit to bring Edu's connections, with the technical director hoping to use his knowledge of young talent in the football world to the benefit of the Gunners.

Gabriel Martinelli  could be the next product of Brazilian football, following in the footsteps of Gabriel Jesus, Neymar and Richarlison who have all made the switch to Europe at a relatively young age.

The player Martinell is aiming to emulate will surely excite Arsenal supporters.

"I model my game on Cristiano Ronaldo," Martinelli told the club's official website. "He is a player who works hard, pushing himself to the next level. Always in the run for titles and individual trophies.

"I look up to Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar as they are players who can decide games and are very professional, who dedicate themselves to the whole game.

"I know a few [of the Brazilian players who played for Arsenal]. I know Edu, Denilson and I know that they have a lot of history at the club.

"Edu, in particular, I had a little contact with him at Corinthians as I had a spell there and I know they had a lot of success here but also for the national team.

"I am going to try to follow the same route."
