Gabriel Martinelli reveals what Unai Emery said to him about starting in the Premier League

Gabriel Martinelli says Unai Emery has urged him to be patient for his first start in the Premier League.

The Brazilian forward joined Arsenal from Ituano FC in the summer, with Gunners technical director Edu using his contacts in his native country to seal a deal for the highly-rated 18-year-old.

Martinelli  has already made a big impression in north London, but mainly in the Europa League and Carabao Cup where he has scored four goals in two appearances - two against Nottingham Forest and another brace against Standard Liege.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery handed the teenager his Premier League debut as a late substitute in the first game of the season against Newcastle, but Martinelli is yet to start a game in the league.

And speaking to ESPN Brazil (via Reddit ), Martinelli admits he must continue working hard and his chance will come.

"I have to thank God for this opportunity, the gaffer and the team gave me a big welcome and I'm trying to get opportunities and do the best I can with them," he said.

"I have to be patient since I'm young and the gaffer talked to me saying I should be patient and wait for the chances, cause they will come.

I'm very happy, and I thank god a lot for this. I want to make my career here and try to be a legend."

Martinelli is set to be included in the Arsenal squad for the trip to Sheffield United after the international break, where Emery's side will look to cement their place in the top four.
