Gabriel Martinelli insider speaks out on Edu Gaspar's vital role to shape the new Arsenal star

Edu Gaspar's work to bring out the best in Gabriel Martinelli has only just begun according to Ituano manager Vinicius Bergantin.

The retired centre-back oversaw the final stages of the Brazilian's development prior to his move to Arsenal this and summer and is looking to his compatriot to show the teenager how to settle in north London.

Following the departure of former Borussia Dortmund talent chief Sven Mislintat last season, the Gunners sought to create the new role of Technica Director to work under Head of Football, Raul Sanllehi.

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Edu was appointed to the position earlier this month following successful spells working for Corinthians and the Brazil national team.

During his career as a player, the midfielder won two Premier League titles, and was a member of the squad that became Invincibles in 2004.

He retired in 2010 but stayed in football to become an organiser behind the scenes, first working as Director of Football for Corinthians before becoming General Coordinator for Brazil.

The 41-year-old has been tipped to shake up how Arsenal recruit and retain talent to sort out their transfer strategy and unbalanced squad in the coming seasons.

However, speaking to in an , Ituano manager Vinicius has called on Edu to help Martinelli to make the most of his opportunities in England.

"Edu understands the path to victory at Arsenal," he said. "Which means he can give a lot of advice for Martinelli to adapt as quickly as possible to the way of life as well as the style of football."

If the teenager can take his chances, Vinicius believes his former star will go right to the very top with the Gunners.

"I think he'll establish himself [as a top player] in Europe within two or three years. He wanted to get to a big club and then help that club play in the Champions League."

Martinelli scored his first goal for Arsenal in a 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids, the first match of their USA tour.

He left Ituano having scored 10 senior goals in 34 games for the club.
