Gabriel Martinelli, Fred and Richarlison name best XI footballers they've played with

Fred did not name a single Manchester United defender in his best ever XI as several Brazilians were quizzed on their elite team-mates.

The South Americans are among the favourites to go all the way at the World Cup in Qatar with several Premier League stars featuring regularly for Tite's outfit. Fred, Gabriel Martinelli and Richarlison are among those to play in the group stages with the Tottenham star in particular showcasing his quality.

Richarlison has played for three English sides in Tottenham, Everton and Watford, whilst Fred and Martinelli were both signed by heavyweights in United and Arsenal, where they have remained. The trio have produced some interesting selections when asked by Globo Esporte to come up with the best XI they've played alongside.

Martinelli's all-Arsenal XI

The forward moved to the Emirates as an unknown quantity back in 2019. Then he was just a teenager but he's been allowed to blossom at the Emirates, cementing himself as a starter. His best XI is, near enough, Mikel Arteta's first choice line-up for most of this season. Compatriots Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel both feature - meaning Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexander Lacazette were snubbed.

Unable to pick himself, Emile Smith Rowe has filled in where Martinelli would usually play in attack, with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard also featuring in the quartet. Oleksandr Zinchenko, William Saliba and Ben White complete the back four, even though White has played in an unnatural right-back role this term.

Martinelli's XI: Ramsdale, Zinchenko, Gabriel, Saliba, White, Xhaka, Partey, Smith Rowe, Odegaard, Saka, Jesus

Fred's defensive snub

The Brazilian was signed by Jose Mourinho in 2018 and has seen plenty of players come and go at Old Trafford. Clearly few defenders have left a mark on him with Fred naming an all-Internacional backline. Many of the names will be unfamiliar to English viewers with the likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez all overlooked.

Diego Forlan, who previously played for United, also made the cut having played with Fred in Brazil for a year. Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo all made the line-up with Fred and the French midfielder previously playing alongside each other in the middle of the park.

David de Gea was also his pick in goal. Pablo Guiñazú - a 13-cap Argentine international - was named in midfield, meaning Fred picked more players from his first ever club, than he did from his current Manchester employers.

Fred's XI: De Gea, Gabriel, Indio, Juan, Kleber, Guinazu, Pogba, Mata, Fernandes, Ronaldo, Forlan

Kane, Son, Rodriguez for Richarlison

There are some divisive picks in Richarlison's best-ever XI. The Brazilian has sampled plenty of the Premier League with ten of his eleven names playing in England's top flight. Fred, previously of Lyon, played alongside the Tottenham star at Fluminense is the only man not to.

Heurelho Gomes played alongside Richarlison at Watford and is the only Hornet to make the cut. Former Everton team-mates Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne, Allan and James Rodriguez all feature. The Colombian arrived with high expectation and, although he didn't stay long, clearly left an impression on the Brazilian.

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son are obvious picks in the forward line with Richarlison currently teaming up with them in north London. Eric Dier and Emerson Royal also make the cut despite the latter dividing opinion as a wing-back. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is named in midfield.

Richarlison's XI: Gomes, Emerson, Dier, Mina, Digne, Allan, Hojbjerg, Rodriguez, Son, Kane, Fred
