Arsenal newboy Gabriel has revealed that Nicolas Pepe played a big part in persuading the Brazilian defender to join Arsenal.
The 22-year-old signed from Lille for £27million this summer and has already become a regular fixture at the centre of Arsenal's defence.
Gabriel featured in all six of Lille's Champions League group stage matches last season and played together with record Gunners signing Pepe at the French giants for two and a half years.
"Yes I spoke with Pepe before I moved," Gabriel told Sky Sports.
"I asked him how it was at the club and of course he had influence to my decision. He was one of the reasons why I decided to speak to him, the fact that I had previously played with him and made the decision to move to Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta's side were defeated by Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday but Gabriel was one player who impressed with another accomplished performance in defence.

With several Portuguese speakers in the squad from David Luiz to Cedric Soares and Gabriel Martinelli, the 6 ft 3 centre back admits that he's had no problem settling in to life in London so far.
“I’m very happy, it’s the best moment of my career so far. Everyone has welcomed me really well. I feel at home here already, so it’s a great feeling so far."
