Gabriel Magalhaes hails Arsenal's "revelation" amid moments of "sadness" this season

Gabriel has hailed Arsenal team-mate Bukayo Saka as a "revelation" as he opens up on a difficult first year at the Emirates.

The centre-half was signed from Lille in the summer and has been a regular under Mikel Arteta.

With Gabriel at the back the Gunners have a strong defensive record, but a winless spell that lasted just shy of two months has hampered their season.

Results have since improved but Arsenal could still miss out on European football next season.

Their only route in appears to be via the Europa League, with the north Londoners eyeing a semi-final spot.

Gabriel believes his first season in English football has been a journey of discovery as he eyes European glory.

“I can say that it’s not been a perfect year, because if it were a perfect year we would be at the top of the table, but it’s been a year of great learning, because it’s my first in the Premier League, I’m very happy here, I already feel at home, little by little I’m learning English,” he told ESPN Brasil.

“It’s been a learning season, which will certainly be marked for the rest of my life. There were moments of learning, sadness, but as I said, a season that will have that taste.

"We still have the Europa League, so we will do everything we can to reach the final, win this title."

The Brazilian is also confident that Arsenal have a bright future ahead.

Saka, despite being just 19, has possibly been the Gunners' most influential player this term whilst Emile Smith Rowe continues to grow in stature.

Gabriel added: “We are a team that, in my eyes and those of many too, we have a very high quality team, of young players and you see how Bukayo is a revelation of the team, he’s a very young player who now plays for England.

"We have Pépé, Emile, who now also played again, so we have a very good team."
