It is official, Gabriel Magalhaes is an Arsenal player.
The Gunners confirmed the signing of the Brazilian defender during a Facebook live video call with compatriots David Luiz and Willian.
Arsenal beat off competition from the likes of Napoli and Manchester United for the 22-year-old after agreeing a fee of around £25 million for the defender.
With so many clubs interested, the player chose to spend his immediate future at the Emirates Stadium, signing a long-term contract with the club.
And during his unveiling video, the new Arsenal number six revealed that messages from Gunners’ fans on social media helped to convince him that he wanted to join the club.
"So many fans were sending me messages asking me to join Arsenal, and that played a big part in me signing for this club,” he told Arsenal’s official website.
The defender had sent several hints over his impending move to the Emirates Stadium on social media.
The defender has also sent a message to fans ahead of his debut in an Arsenal shirt.
"My message to the fans is, what you can expect from me is that I will always give everything on and off the pitch,” he said.
Mikel Arteta also explained why the club made a move for the defender.
He has many qualities which will make us stronger as a defensive unit and as a team,” said the Arsenal boss.
“He has proved with Lille that he is a defender with many outstanding attributes and we are looking forward to watching him grow as an Arsenal player.”
