Gabriel Jesus reflects on eventful 12 months with Man City and Brazil

Gabriel Jesus believes he has developed as a player over the last 12 months as he celebrates more silverware.

The Manchester City striker has had highs and lows with Brazil in this summer's Copa America and that continued in the final against Peru; he contributed a goal and an assist in the first half to put his team in control but then reacted furiously as he was sent off for two yellow cards, pushing a VAR monitor and crying in the tunnel.

His contribution could not be denied though as Tite's side ran out winners and the tournament has been seen as redemptive for the 22-year-old after a difficult 12 months.

Jesus was criticised for his performances in a limp World Cup for Brazil and then saw his opportunities at the Etihad limited by the terrific form of Sergio Aguero .

Having dealt with those challenges, the forward sees improvement in his game.

“I don’t see this as a recovery,” he told reporters . “I learned since the World Cup, I came mentally better, I worked a lot at City.

"In the beginning, it was a bit complicated but with the help of my family, friends and colleagues, I could focus again on my football.”

Jesus picked up a fifth winners' medal to end his season, having won four competitions with Pep Guardiola and his squad. The Brazilian will now rest up while City head to China for their pre-season tour.
