Manchester City hitman Gabriel Jesus helped create Premier League history on Monday night.
Title-chasing City kicked off their pursuit of the Premier League trophy with a trip to Molineux to play Wolves, who did the double over them last season.
Pep Guardiola's men fared far better than they did on their last visit to the Black Country, in which they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Nuno Espirito Santo's side.
City ended up running out 3-1 winners courtesy of first-half goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden and a stoppage-time strik from Jesus.
Jesus' strike, however, represented far more than just a clinching goal for the Citizens, who were imperious from the outset.
It happened to be the 44th goal of the second round of Premier League fixtures, a competition record for a 20-team season.
The previous record, which stood at 43 goals, was set in February 2011.
Since joining City in the summer of 2016 from Palmeiras for a fee of £27million, Brazil international Jesus has scored 69 goals and provided 30 assists in 154 appearances.
As is almost always the case when City play, Belgium international De Bruyne was the star of the show at Molineux, providing an assist as well as commencing the scoring.
After the match, Guardiola was full of praise for the former Wolfsburg man, saying: "Since we came back with the national teams, every training session I feel his commitment and right now he's an important player for us - always will be.
"In the situation, we're in now he is important for us. His penalty was strong, he played really well like all the team.
"He likes to play football, he doesn't feel the pressure and likes to compete at a high standard."
Manchester City will be back in action on Thursday night, welcoming Championship side Bournemouth to the Etihad for their Carabao Cup third-round tie.
