Gabriel Jesus explains why he was so important for Man City vs Real Madrid

Gabriel Jesus believes the power of his pressing game was key to Manchester City's victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League

The Brazilian netted in the reverse fixture at the Bernabeu in February and started on the wing again at the Etihad, with Phil Foden operating as the false nine.

Jesus was involved from the off, putting Raphael Varane under pressure after just nine minutes and forcing the Frenchman into an early mistake that allowed Raheem Sterling to open the scoring.

Pep Guardiola moved Jesus back into the centre for the second half and his pressing resulted in the winner, which he netted himself.

Jesus said he was eager to put the Madrid defenders under pressure and force them into making the mistakes they did.

"It is about belief, believe in their mistakes," he told BT Sport. "We are human and can make mistakes so I believe always and I press, press a lot. It is one of my powers. I was happy to score."

Jesus added that he aims to emulate one of the greatest forwards in Brazil's history, Ronaldo Nazario.

He said: "I work to be a great striker, I work every day hard to be like Ronaldo was. His quality is different from me but I have to work to be a great striker.

"Real Madrid are such a good team, they have a lot of players. They can beat us which is why we came to the pitch to work hard again.

"We have to keep working and stay strong for the next game."
