Gabriel Jesus explains simple trick behind award-winning form on the wing for Man City

Gabriel Jesus says crossing the ball early is the simple key to his great start to the season on the right-wing.

Having been named Manchester City's Player of the Month, Jesus reflected on a fine run of form that has seen him score three goals (including the winner in a crucial clash against Chelsea) as well as contributing three assists in just eight appearances.

Jesus has moved onto the right wing rather than his previous position as a striker, and he revealed how his experiences in that central role has given him the knowledge to provide City's other attackers exactly what they need - quality crosses into the box.

Looking at videos of his three Premier League assists, he told City: "As a striker I like when the wingers put the ball across the box so when I play there I cross the ball all the time.

"This [his second assist vs Norwich] is a good ball by Kyle, we talked before the game and he can see my runs in behind and give a ball. I cross and Jack with his quality and a little bit of luck can score the goal.

"Bernardo can set to me and I cross straight in the area [for his assist vs Arsenal]. The coach told us to arrive in the box so I knew we had three of four there. I put there and Gundo does the work.

Despite taking an early lead in the club's assist charts, Jesus says he still needs to chip in with goals - just as he did against Arsenal in the league.

"It was well played by the team and by Jack [Grealish]. I can arrive in the box, he found me, and give the ball. I control and put in the net. It's good play by the team.

"I need to score, I have to score. I'm playing for a top club, when I score because of the work I do on the pitch. Me and my friends on the pitch be happy. The staff and Pep as well, I think I'm a good guy!

"I'm trying to get better and better by season. I try to improve, I have to improve always. I have the ambition to be better every day. I have the number but it's normal a striker to have the nine. All my life I play with nine or eleven or seven, sometimes ten. The number is just number. I try to give my best all the time.

"I start to play football as a winger, right, sometimes more on the left. I enjoy more on the right. It's good for me, for the team. I can play in three positions. For me it's perfect. I can help my team and I'm ready, I train all the time, work hard to get a chance. We have a lot of top players who can play good and help the team."

However, one position Jesus won't be volunteering to play is in a deeper central midfield role, as he laughed off suggestions he could be moved back in the team at some point.

"I dont think so, we have a lot of good players to play there," the popular Brazilian said.

"If sometimes for any reason they cannot play I think I can do not bad - not the same like them - but I think I can play there. Of course we have a lot of top players who play there."
