Gabriel Byrne returns to hometown for Gaiety Theatre show which pays tribute to people of Dublin

Gabriel Byrne returns to Dublin tonight for the world premiere of Walking with Ghosts at the Gaiety Theatre.

The show is adapted from the actor's bestselling book of the same name and directed by Emmy award-winning director Lonny Price.

Walking with Ghosts will play for 12 performances only starting tonight, Thursday January 27 and running until February 6.

The show sees Gabriel reflect on his personal and professional life both in Dublin and Hollywood.

As a young boy growing up on the outskirts of Dublin, Gabriel recalls exploring his imagination among the fields and hills near his home at the edge of a city that was rapidly expanding.

Walking with Ghosts is said to be "a lyrical homage to the people and landscapes that ultimately shape our destinies".

Speaking about the show ahead of its Gaiety Theatre premiere, Gabriel said: "I am excited and honoured to be returning to Dublin for the world premiere of Walking with Ghosts."

Meanwhile Lonny Price, whose Broadway directing credits include Sunset Boulevard starring Glenn Close and Sweeny Todd starring Emma Thompson, said: "I loved Gabriel’s book Walking with Ghosts, and I am thrilled to be directing him in his own adaptation of his gorgeous memoir."

Producer at Landmark Productions Anne Clarke said: "It is hard to believe that it has been over four decades since Gabriel Byrne appeared on an Irish stage.

"Walking with Ghosts is a stunningly beautiful and evocative book and we are thrilled to bring it to the stage in Gabriel’s hometown."

Gabriel began his acting career in Ireland's renowned Focus Theatre and Project Arts Centre. He went on to join London's Royal Court Theatre and the Royal National Theatre before moving to the US.

He has now starred in more than 80 feature films including Excalibur, Miller's Crossing, Into the West, Little Women, and The Usual Suspects.

Tickets start at €26 and are available through Ticketmaster.
