Gabby Logan reveals how Sir Bobby Robson made sexist Manchester United fans 'look like idiots'

Gabby Logan has revealed that Sir Bobby Robson made a group of sexist Manchester United supporters 'look like idiots' after the Newcastle United legend 'started shaking his chest about'.

Logan was covering the Red Devils' Champions League group stage clash against Sparta Prague for ITV with Sir Bobby and fellow pundit Ally McCoist back in 2004.

The broadcaster was soon spotted by a small contingent of travelling supporters in the studio at the Letna Stadium, and they started singing a sexist chant.

Logan, a proud Newcastle fan, has now opened up about that experience and Sir Bobby's brilliant response in a new book, Football, She Wrote: An Anthology of Women's Writing on the Game .

"I didn’t know where to look, I felt embarrassed that it was all happening in front of Sir Bobby," the Durham University graduate wrote.

"And then he just opened his jacket as if he was getting his t--- out and started shaking his chest about.

"It was so funny and unexpected. He completely defused the situation and made them look like idiots. Afterwards, he turned and winked at me.

"The next day, when I was in the airport, a very hungover Man Utd fan came up to me and said, 'Er, I was one of the lads who was singing get your t--- out. I’m really sorry.'

"I said to him, 'You wouldn’t sing that if your wife or sister were sat next to you, would you?'

"And he said, 'No.' So I said, 'Right, well, don’t sing it again.'

"I felt quite powerful telling him off. But I don’t think I would have done that without Sir Bobby’s support the night before."
