The Management Committee of the GAA have called a virtual meeting tonight with speculation mounting that the 2020 Allianz Leagues will be postponed indefinitely.
The chairs of each county board executive will convene prior to Coiste Bainisti (GAA Management Committee), who have Congress powers until the start of December.
They decided on Monday to suspend all club games until further notice and it is believed the 30 remaining regulation League games in hurling and football could be put on hold as the Covid-19 spike continues in all parts of the island.
The League was set to be completed over the weekends of October 17/18 and 24/25 but could now be played in the early part of next year to allow all promotion and relegation issues to be confirmed before the 2021 League begins.
Fermanagh became the third Ulster county to report an outbreak in the senior county squad in Ulster and they were due to travel to Clare for a Division Three game in the NFL on Sunday week.
It is believed up to 10 players have tested positive with others confirmed as close contacts and manager Ryan McMenamin has admitted they “are in no shape to play”.
There are now grave fears over the Championship schedule which begins with the Dublin-Laois and Clare-Limerick provincial first-round hurling clashes on October 24th and 25th respectively, with the latter fixture in Semple Stadium doubling up as the Allianz Division 1 hurling final.
The minor football and hurling championships, the U20 hurling championship and the remaining U20 football semi-finals and final are also under threat with the GAA focused on ensuring the All-Ireland senior Championships are completed.
Electric Ireland, sponsors of the minor championships, called off a press event relating to the competitions earlier this week.
