GAA send warning of risks facing players if they defy blanket ban

The GAA have warned clubs and county boards that players who defy a blanket ban on all activities will not be insured during the suspension.

The association shut down all activities last Friday for 17 days due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, with play resuming on March 29 at the earliest.

And the GAA have warned that players defying the suspension will not be insured during the stoppage, putting them at serious risk.

The Irish Independent reports that the association has advised that its Injury Benefit Fund (IBF) and public liability insurance will not be in operation until March 29 "in respect of any playing or training activity undertaken by GAA clubs or members or undertaken on club property".

A note to clubs added: "Should an incident arise during this current period and, upon investigation, it is determined that a club acted in conflict with the advice of health authorities, cover will not be provided by the liability insurance."

The GAA has also advised clubs that meetings should be held by video conference or phone where possible.
