GAA President reveals trophies will stay in Dublin after All-Ireland finals in Late Late Show interview with Ryan Tubridy

GAA President John Horan has confirmed that the Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy Cups will remain in Croke Park after the All-Ireland finals.

Horan revealed the news on RTE's Late Late Show - explaining that there will be no official homecomings this year due to the pandemic.

Waterford are out to end a 79-year wait for an All-Ireland hurling title in the decider against Limerick on Sunday, December 13 - but they will not be bringing the Liam MacCarthy Cup home this year, even if they can beat the Treaty men.

Mayo, Cavan and Tipperary are also aiming to end long waits for glory in the All-Ireland Football Championship. However, Sam Maguire will be staying in Dublin this year, even if the Sky Blues miss out on six-in-a-row.

Horan said: "We appreciate the privilege we've been given by the country to run these competitions and we have to take our guidance.

"I'm afraid I'm not going to challenge it, I have to just comply with it."

The GAA shipped criticism when celebrations arising from club championship wins were linked to the spread of Covid-19 - leading to the association suspending all club activity in October.
