GAA great Graham Geraghty recalls wondering when his life was going to end as he lay in hospital bed

Graham Geraghty has recalled lying in a hospital bed and wondering when his life was going to end.

The Meath GAA great experienced a ‘horrific pain’ in his head at work last October and was rushed to hospital.

He underwent an operation soon after at Beaumont Hospital and spent several weeks recovering, having suffered a life-threatening brain aneurysm.

Speaking on LMFM's Late Lunch, Geraghty explained how he thought that he was going to die.

He said: "There were a couple of nights that I was lying in the bed just looking at the ceiling and wondering when it was going to end.

"There was one particular night I was just in a bad place. I just said 'I've enough now, just let me go, take me or whatever'.

"All of a sudden then this priest appeared around the corner. I don't know if it was faith or divine inspiration or whatever but I had a chat with him for ten or 15 minutes and he kind of, I suppose, showed me what I had to live for.

"He asked me had I family and friends and my kids and all that kind of stuff. That kind of got me through the night and the next day was better and the day after that was better.

"I suppose when things are at its worse, we reflect and see what's going on in our own lives and with our family and friends and that's what's really important more than anything else."

The two-time All-Ireland winner said that he was fatigued following the operation, but that it is getting better all the time.

He added: "Fatigue is part of the recovery and one of the side effects, but thankfully it's getting better and better."
