GAA fans in awe of Liam Griffin as legendary Wexford boss stars in Laochra Gael

GAA fans were united in their praise for Liam Griffin tonight as the legendary Wexford hurling manager starred in Laochra Gael

Griffin famously led the county to All-Ireland glory in 1996, and was the subject of this week's Laochra Gael finale on TG4.

In the iconic documentary, fans were taken down memory lane as it looked back on his brief but successful reign at the helm with Wexford.

And fans were struck by Griffin's passion for the county as they praised the former boss.

One fan said: "The passion and love Liam Griffin has for Wexford hurling is unbelievable. Fingers crossed we will all be saying the rosary going to a match and singing boolavogue on the way home very very soon".

"Liam Griffin is an inspiration. Great show," another summarised.

One said: "What a program tonight about Liam Griffin on TG4 , inspiring, great man great leader".

"Liam Griffin...what a man, you can feel the passion he has for Wexford hurling with every word from his mouth," another said.

Ahead of the documentary, Griffin has acknowledged that Limerick are well ahead of the pack as he opened up on Wexford's All-Ireland drought.

“No, not in my wildest dreams did I think it would happen," said Griffin.

“I thought that after ‘96 we would kick on.

"Maybe it wasn’t realistic when you look back on it because we had a few older players who were very key players, and we had some of the really good players that were in their early 30s.

“So, we probably didn’t dwell on that an awful lot, or enough really, but it is disappointing we didn’t.

"I just feel that it’s wrong that we are not there or thereabouts.

“I have to say that the structure we had in place, and the structures we had amongst ourselves between organising hurling and football, were never conducive to either of the two teams going really well.

“We needed a different system within our own county."
