GAA fans bemoan 'boring' football as Dublin take control of semi-final against Mayo

GAA fans are bemoaning the evolution of gaelic football as the first half of Dublin and Mayo's All-Ireland semi-final failed to live up to expectations.

The much-anticipated rematch of 2020's final had many predicting Dublin's demise, but a spate of missed chances from Mayo has been mixed with customary clinical finishing from the reigning champions.

Soon Dublin, with Dean Rock knocking over five points, had a sizeable lead and could afford to bide their time and exchange a long series of hand passes towards the end of the half and take a 0-10 to 0-04 lead at the break.

But it had GAA fans on social media fed up with the modern style of the game that so often privileges possession over attacking intent.

One person said: 'When Dublin v mayo is a bore fest Gaelic football is in dire straits."

Another said: "This is terrible to watch, Mayo no chance, Dublin boring."

Someone else commented: "This deserves whistles and boos to be ringing around Croke Park. Chronically boring stuff."

While another wrote: "This is an awful match, horrible style of play by Dublin. Mayo not up to it. Compared to the hurling….meh."
