GAA community rallying around Graham Geraghty after Meath great hospitalised

The GAA community is rallying around Graham Geraghty and his family after the Meath football great was hospitalised yesterday.

Geraghty, 47, took a turn and will have an operation in Beaumont Hospital this morning.

"The football community are wishing Graham well, he's in Beaumont at the moment," said his former Meath team-mate Bernard Flynn.

"The amount of good wishes that myself and other friends of Graham have received on his behalf is overwhelming. It's a time now for his family.

"We roomed together for the Ireland v England game for two nights in February, and the fun and craic we had, and we've had a few meet ups since.

"All our prayers are with Graham, Amanda and their kids."

Married with four children, Geraghty won two All-Ireland senior football titles in a stellar career with Meath, as well as three Leinster titles, and won two All Star awards.

The Seneschalstown player also represented Ireland in the International Rules Series between 1999 and 2006.

Geraghty also entered the world of politics while still an inter-county player - he stood unsuccessfully for election as a Fine Gale candidate in the 2007 election in the Meath West constituency.
