GAA commentary legend Micheal O'Muircheartaigh shows off golf swing at age 89

GAA commentary legend Micheal O'Muircheartaigh was praised on social media as a video of the 89-year-old playing golf went viral.

The much-loved commentator turns 90 in a few weeks and still boasts an impressive swing.

His nephew Joe posted the video of his uncle swinging his driver with the caption: "90 in a few weeks, Micheal O Muircheartaigh still teeing it high & letting it fly in Grange Golf Club. Inspioráideach i gconaí."

The Kerry native recently featured on RTE News with his physiotherapist son Eamon and demonstrated some simple exercise techniques for keeping fit at home.

O'Muircheartaigh used his garden at his Co Kildare home to keep active and exercise when those over the age of 70 were advised to stay at home due to coronavirus.

"I have always been active," he said. But if you take four laps of the garden here you have a mile walked and it's nice to do a few more miles after that - to stay trim and keep fit."

The retired broadcaster is widely regarded as the voice of Gaelic games after a legendary RTE career that spanned over six decades and saw him earn a place in the Guinness World Book of Records.
