GAA club unveils new jersey commemorating War of Independence brothers

A Cork GAA club have unveiled a special commemorative jersey honouring the brothers after whom the club is named.

Delanys GAA on the northside of Cork city will be running events throughout the year to honour Jeremiah and Cornelius Delany, who were shot on the night of the Burning of Cork.

Ger Maher, Chairperson of the club, told CorkBeo: "The committee of the club thought the jersey would be a great way to commemorate the Delany brothers who were shot one hundred years ago. We will also be running events throughout the year for our members, underage and community to enjoy."

Jerseys will be available to buy on the Masita website from Monday and can also be ordered through the club's Facebook page.

The jersey features portraits of the Delany brothers on the front, while a picture of a scene from the Burning of Cork features on the back of the jersey.

Ger added: "It was a great pleasure to work with Masita to come up with this brilliant jersey. We already have huge interest from all over the county with people from various GAA clubs looking to buy them."
