GAA club shuts down activities after child tests positive for Covid-19

A Tyrone GAA club have suspended all club activities until further notice after a child player has tested positive for Covid-19.

Greencastle GAA Club have confirmed that a child who attended their Go Games training on Thursday has tested positive for the deadly bug.

The club have alerted Tyrone GAA and are following all Public Health Agency advice.

As a result, they've advised all children and coaches involved in Thursday's session to self-isolate along with their family members before further guidance is given.

A club statement said: "The club have been informed that a child who attended Go Games on Thursday night has tested positive for Covid-19.

"As a precautionary measure, the club has cancelled all club activities until further notice."

Meanwhile, a host of club GAA fixtures continue to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic this weekend with a number of games postponed.

Ulster Ladies Club Championship fixtures have been suspended due to a rise in Covid-19 cases across the province.

Ten fixtures were scheduled to take place this weekend at junior, intermediate and senior level.

But the Ulster Ladies Gaelic Football Association has confirmed there will be no games until the situation is reviewed on October 12.

"Following a recent upsurge in Covid-19 cases province-wide, Donegal moving into Level 3 and a number of positive Covid-19 cases in LGFA clubs, after careful consideration Ulster Ladies Executive feel it is in the best interests of our members to postpone the Ulster Ladies Club Championship 2020," read a statement from the ULGFA.

"Should there be a significant decrease in Covid-19 cases and lighter restrictions in place then we will review this decision on 12 October.

"This has not been an easy decision to make and we thank the clubs for your continued co-operation."

Meanwhile, Sunday's Longford Senior Football Championship semi-finals have also been postponed along with today's Intermediate final.

Longford Slashers were scheduled to take on Mullinalaghta St Columba's and Killoe Emmet Og were to face Mostrim tomorrow.
