A GAA club has launched an investigation after an umpire was allegedly assaulted at a minor match over the weekend.
Naomh Fionbarra have launched an internal investigation after an umpire was allegedly assaulted at a Minor Hurling League game against Clanna Gael Fontenoy at Sean Moore Park on Sunday.
The match was stopped by the referee early in the second half after the alleged assault and the umpire was treated for injuries by medics. In a statement to Dublin Live, Naomh Fionnbarra said the club is "aware of media coverage" surrounding the match.
They said: "We await the referees report from the game and a possible investigation from the Dublin County Board. We dispute some of the one sided media reports and have launched an internal investigation.
"We are aware that members of both clubs have contacted Gardai in relation to incidents at the game."
A garda spokesman confirmed that officers are probing the incident. "Gardai received report of an alleged incident at a GAA sports ground in Dublin 4 yesterday afternoon Sunday, 5th March 2023," they said.
"Enquiries are ongoing at this time."
