G8 agrees $50bn for Africa

Tony Blair has just announced the signing of the G8 communique on Africa, in which the developed world has pledged $50bn (£28.8bn) in aid to the continent. That's a figure the Germans were reportedly not keen to sign up to. Mr Blair said it was "not the end of poverty in Africa but it is hope that it can be ended".
