MUMBAI: Students registering for the first round of online FYJC admissions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are back to the 2020 levels. The first minority quota cut-offs last week indicated a similar trend. Last year, registrations had dropped by 18% compared to 2020.
The first general merit li-st, considered important to get seats in colleges of choice, will be out on Wednesday. The registration for round 1 ended on July 30 with 2.37 lakh students vying for their preference college. Last year, 2.02 lakh students had registered for round 1 compared to 2.42 lakh in 2020. Last year’s drop was attributed to the lockdown-induced migration of students.
This year, both the centralised admission process (CAP) and minority colleges have received more applications than last year, said pr-incipals. This can also be attributed to over 50,000 seats in 170-plus colleges being added to CAP this year. The total intake capacity for FYJC this year has gone up to 3.71 lakh from 3.2 lakh in 2021.
Over 2.56 lakh SSC, 12,046 ICSE and 8,057 CBSE stude-nts are participating in online FYJC admissions. The admission process was delayed in order to allow ICSE and CBSE students to be part of the CAP. — Sandhya Nair
