Fyfe boots three goals as Dockers beat Power in Perth

Nat Fyfe has shown that he'll be a weapon at ground level as much as in the air this year after producing a series of stunning highlights in Fremantle's 31-point pre-season win over Port Adelaide at Fremantle Oval.

Fyfe's elite marking capabilities were one of the biggest reasons why Fremantle were so keen to play him as a permanent forward this year.

But the two-time Brownlow medallist sent a warning to the competition's best defenders on Thursday after producing a standout display at ground level as well.

Fyfe booted three goals and dished off two assists in the 13.14 (92) to 8.13 (61) win, with each of his majors worthy of featuring on a highlights reel.

His first came early in the match when he scooped up the ball cleanly in the pocket before kicking truly with a checkside effort.

The 31-year-old's second major came when he ran on to a loose ball with Tom Jonas in hot pursuit.

Fyfe collected the ball, momentarily stopped in his tracks to deceive Jonas, before nailing a running checkside goal from 40m.

The third was arguably the best of the lot, with Fyfe ripping the ball off grounded ruckman Scott Lycett and fending off Darcy Byrne-Jones before nailing a snap.

Fyfe's heroics gave Fremantle a 22-point lead at three-quarter time.

Port closed the gap to nine points in the final term, but Fremantle pulled clear again after Fyfe turned provider to gift Matt Taberner two easy goals.

Fyfe's second assist - when he hit a marking contest hard to cause a spill before dishing off the handball to Taberner - was further proof of his value.

Josh Treacy (two goals) boosted his chances of a round-one berth with an impressive display up forward and in the ruck, while forgotten forward Sam Sturt also put up his hand with two goals.

Sean Darcy (38 hitouts, 14 disposals, five clearances) dominated in the ruck, while Andrew Brayshaw (36 disposals), Will Brodie (36) and Caleb Serong (32) racked up big numbers.

For Port, Miles Bergman was prolific with 25 disposals and one goal, while Sam Powell-Pepper was a physical force on his way to two goals.

Prized recruit Jason Horne-Francis finished with 21 disposals and 10 inside 50s.
