Farmer Wants A Wife‘s Thomas and Clarette have claimed that Channel Seven offered them a nifty $20,000 if the farmer got down on one knee and proposed to her during the reunion episode. Although they turned it down, the 35-year-old teacher reckons that if they’d agreed to become betrothed on TV, their edit would have been a whole lot more favourable than it was.
In case you missed it, despite ending up with Farmer Thomas and still going strong today, Clarette unfortunately seemed to cop the dreaded villain edit during this season’s FWAW.

Speaking to Chattr, she revealed that the network behind the television magic was determined to land a happy ending during the finale. So much so that they offered them a hefty sum to make a happily ever after proposal happen.
“Thomas was offered $20,000 for a proposal at the reunion,” Clarette claimed, noting that they turned it down.
“We would like [a proposal] to be on our own terms and on our own timeline and not dictated to us by Channel Seven. Although I think if we had accepted, our edit would have been very different and our love story would have had to be shown from the very beginning.”
If that wasn’t enough of a juicy little tea nugget, former FWAW contestant Daisy Lamb took to the comments on Chattr’s Instagram post, claiming that they offer the proposal deal to every farmer.

While the couple wouldn’t say no to a televised wedding, Clarette says Channel Seven has a lot to atone for before they give the network anymore access to their personal lives.
“I think if the network wants access to our lives in the future with a wedding or kids, then they would need to admit some wrongdoing with our edit and take some accountability for the falsification of our relationship,” she explained.
“At the end of the day, they wanted a love story; we gave them one, and they chose not to run with it, favouring drama instead.
“They need to listen to what the viewers want and that’s the original format and the wholesome love story that we were sold.”
It’s not the first time Clarette has aired her grievances over the way she was portrayed on the show. Taking to a WordPress blog shared after the finale, Clarette slammed her edit on the show.
“I’ve watched reality TV before and I’ve felt the same watching it, ‘Oh they must really be like that, because how can you make somebody into somebody they’re not?’ What followed were staged scenarios and frankenbitten soundbites — spliced phrases used to shape a narrative I never consented to,” she wrote.
“The result? A distorted image and perception of me. I’ve been called ‘polarising’, ‘dramatic’ and ‘disingenuous’ (and they’re the ones I can print). But that woman on screen however edited — was also complex, vulnerable, raw; it was just never shown.
“It’s still too easy to misconstrue a woman’s strength as a threat. When women go after what they want, not wanting to waste their own or others’ time, it’s reframed through desperation and criticism.”
