Futuristic suitcase is designed for holidays to the MOON - but it costs £40,000

While the idea of holidays to the moon was once a concept of science fiction, several companies including SpaceX and Virgin Galactic are racing to make it a reality.

To prepare for these futuristic holidays, Horizn Studios has revealed the world’s first luggage for space travel.

The suitcase was co-designed by Alyssa Carson, the 18-year-old hoping to be one of the astronauts on board NASA’s first manned mission to Mars in 2033.

Ms Carson said: “It was fascinating to work with the team at Horizn Studios – we asked ourselves what a space traveller would need in terms of luggage, and what that luggage would need to be able to do.

“My generation is closer than ever to space travel and I’ve been dreaming of becoming an astronaut since I was three years old.

“I loved working on designing something that would inspire the next generation of travellers to push their boundaries. I can’t wait to take Horizn ONE with me to Mars.”

The suitcase, called Horizn ONE, is built from graphene-enhance carbon fibre, making it robust while also extremely light.

In fact, Horizn Studios estimates that case weighs no more than 900 grams!

The base of the bag is electromagnetic, allowing it to secure to the floor or walls, even in zero gravity environments.

Meanwhile, the suitcase is kitted out with a host of electronics, including graphene supercapacitors and an inductive charging field for wireless charging, an inbuilt smart screen, and fingerprint recognition.

Other key features include a vacuum function, allowing you to fold the luggage down completely flat, and a silver-ion enhanced compartment that neutralises germs.

However, the suitcase has an eye-watering price tag that’s likely to put off many customers.

It currently has a pre-order price tag of £40,000 - ouch!

Stefan Holwe, founder of Horizn Studios, said: “As a smart travel brand, it is our mission to enable curious minds to go further, so this project lies very close to our hearts. We’re excited to honour this landmark anniversary with Alyssa, who fearlessly represents space travel for the next generation.

"Space is seen as the final frontier, and Horizn ONE brings us one step closer. It shows how far smart travel technology has come, and how far it can go”.

Sadly the suitcase is still a concept, and Horizn Studios expects the first space range to arrive in 2030.
