Future of T in the Park decided as festival boss Geoff Ellis makes statement

T in the Park will not be returning, according to festival bosses.

Fans of the popular music festival will be gutted to hear Geoff Ellis' recent interview.

He told Newsbeat: "It was an amazing festival, but it ran its course.

"Everyone loved T and we all had great fun doing it."

After two successful decades, T in the Park was cancelled indefinitely in 2016  - after the organisers said red tape made it virtually impossible to plan."

At the time Geoff Ellis said they were 'taking a break' from the festival, however have since launched Transmt.

It has been long speculated whether Transmt, happening this weekend at Glasgow Green, was a replacement for popular T, although Mr Ellis refused to comment, despite being asked the same question for years.

Geoff Ellis said: "It's all about TRNSMT for us now.

"Things move on and we keep creating.

"The festival scene's really, really healthy these days and it's great to still be amongst it."

The first T in the Park was held in Strathclyde Park, near Hamilton, in 1994, with just 2000 people camping.

The festival then became firmly established at Balado in Perthshire, quickly being recognised as a key date in the calendar for millions.

Through the years, it has continually attracted the biggest names in music to its stages, including Jay-Z and Chris Martin's Coldplay,

But the music extravaganza was hit by problems since its move from Balado.

The first festival at Strathallan Castle was held in 2015 but was plagued by access and traffic chaos.

Describing the challenges since the change of venue, organisers reflected on the impact "limitations" had on spectators.

"We tried our best to work with the pressures placed upon the site by bringing in an additional team and fixing the first year traffic issues, but ultimately we're not in control of the overall site layout.

"The continued restrictions means that the negative impact on our fans and the limitations placed on their experience is too great."
