Future journalists can enter our new Changemakers competition to win a ground-breaking career opportunity

Future journalists are being invited to apply for an exciting competition that could see them gain vital work experience and be mentored by staff at the largest news publisher in the UK.

Causeway Education, an organisation which helps support young people facing barriers to higher education, apprenticeships and early careers, have partnered with Reach plc to launch Changemakers.

The exciting opportunity is open to 16-18 year olds who have always attended a non-fee paying school or college or state school and are keen to learn more about the media sector.

Through teamwork, the national competition will give you a chance to showcase and develop your skills as well as having your work published in at least one Reach title.

All you have to do is create a media campaign that you believe will improve the lives of 16-24-year-old readers. It could be either an information campaign, a law-changing petition, or urging new government policies - but it must be captivating, imaginative and fascinate the target audience.

This competition is also open to asylum seekers, young carers and those who aren’t getting straight As - we know how hard that is.

In return, you will develop your knowledge about the media world, improve public speaking and learn how to work as part of a team. The team with a winning pitch will: have two weeks (unpaid) work experience at a Reach title, have your work published in one or more Reach Plc publications and have your travel expenses paid - there’s also goodies up for grabs for runners-up too.

Those who successfully apply will be invited to attend a launch event in Manchester in July where they will receive an introduction to what it’s like to work in the sector, learn more about the competition and get to ask any burning questions.

All teams will receive online support to help develop, format and refine their pitch before it is then delivered in front of a judging panel in late August.

It is free to enter. Complete and submit an individual application form here. Causeway Education will be in contact with further information. The deadline for all applications is July 14.
