Everton fans have been reacting to the news that Mason Holgate has committed his long-term future to the club.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year-deal today as a reward for his progress at Goodison Park .
Holgate had been linked with a move to Manchester City this summer, but today's news has well and truly quashed those rumours.
Speaking on his new deal, he said: “This is my fifth year at Everton and my development as a person and a player in that period has been massive.
“The direction the club is going, it is a great club to be at and I am really excited about it. We want to move to the next step and push for bigger and better things.
"I want to win things – and winning some silverware is where I see us. It is definitely a positive time to be here and I am looking forward to seeing how far we can go.”
And Blues fans reacting to the news on Twitter have been delighted by the club’s latest announcement.
The young defender has started all but one of Everton's games under Carlo Ancelotti, having initially secured his place in the Blues’ starting line-up under Marco Silva earlier this season.
Holgate joined Everton from Barnsley in August 2015 and has since gone on to make 74 appearances for the Goodison Park club.
