Future builders in the making as Bradley Stoke students get hands-on with Taylor Wimpey

Budding builders from Bradley Stoke Community School have enjoyed a hands-on construction careers sessions thanks to Taylor Wimpey. A team of Taylor Wimpey apprentices, along with Neil Blight, Apprentice Manager and Chris Marsh owner of Chris Marsh Construction Limited, visited the school to give pupils in years 9, 10 and 11 an insight into what it’s like to work in the construction industry. During the session, pupils were able to get stuck into practical exercises, such as basic bricklaying and carpentry skills and learn about the careers available at Taylor Wimpey.

Lauren Stone, careers leader at Bradley Stoke Community Schools said: “We can’t thank Taylor Wimpey enough for the amazing session they ran with our students. They gave an in-depth account of their various specialisms and encouraged students to think about all of the opportunities that are available to them.

“For me, it was lovely to watch the apprentices demonstrating their newfound skills and helping our students to have a go at the hands-on tasks. The whole team was engaging, patient and kind and feedback from the students has been great – they really enjoyed it.”

Neil Blight, apprentice manager at Taylor Wimpey Bristol said: “I’m delighted to hear that the students enjoyed our visit as much as the team did. There are so many career pathways in construction and it was brilliant to have the opportunity to talk to pupils about the options available to them.”

Keith Simmons, managing director at Taylor Wimpey Bristol adds: “We want to inspire the next generation to consider a career in the construction industry and it’s fantastic to hear that the pupils at Bradley Stoke School Social enjoyed this visit. I hope we have encouraged them to explore the various careers opportunities in housebuilding and we look forward to continuing to run similar sessions with other schools in the area.”
