The town of Futaba in Fukushima Prefecture will be added to the Olympic torch relay route, the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced Thursday. In some parts of Futaba, evacuation orders following the accident at Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc.'s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant will be lifted on March 4.

The Fukushima prefectural government asked the committee to include Futaba in the torch relay route after the decision was made to lift the evacuation order. Including Futaba, the torch relay will pass through all 11 municipalities in the prefecture where evacuation orders have been issued.

The Olympic torch relay in Fukushima Prefecture will run for three days from March 26 to 28 and will travel through Futaba on the first day.
