'Fury' at Derby after wannabe Newcastle owner Sheikh Khaled sees another takeover bid fail

The wannabe owners of Newcastle United from summer 2019 have seen their takeover bid for Derby County scrapped - according to reports in the Telegraph.

In it, the Rams are said to be "furious" after the talks between Derby and Sheikh Khaled collapsed after the Dubai-based businessman failed to meet a recent deadline.

The Telegraph report reads "After nearly 12 months of talks, Morris is understood to have told BZI they had until Monday to deliver the necessary funds, but with no resolution the deal is off with Derby now pursuing other options.

"It is now the third time that Sheikh Khaled, a cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour, has fallen short in his bid to buy a football club after previous attempts with Liverpool and Newcastle."

The group was trying to buy Derby under the Derventio Holdings umbrella which included Midhat Kidwai, who became infamous for communicating with Newcastle fans over Whatsapp during their failed 2019 bid for Newcastle.

Speaking on the collapse of the Bin Zayed Group attempt to buy Newcastle in 2019, Magpies owner Mike Ashley said: "'The last bid, the one from UAE, he's a prince and he's got £38bn or £100bn, all these numbers — well, why would you even care what you're paying then?

"What difference would £10m either way make?"
