Fury as mum who poured boiling sugar water over neighbour avoids jail

People were left disgusted and furious as a mum-of-two who poured a kettle of boiling sugar water over her neighbour after a row avoided jail.

Chloe Walsh left her victim, Kimberley Caples, with facial burns after throwing the boiling water over her head.

She was unable to nurse her three-month-old baby as a result of her injuries.

Walsh, a 27-year-old mum-of-two, was spared jail after a court heard she is the primary carer for her two children.

She was handed 18 months suspended for 20 months and ordered to complete 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirements and 150 hours of unpaid work. The judge also imposed a five year restraining order preventing Walsh from contacting her victim.

Martine Snowdon, prosecuting at Liverpool Crown Court, said Walsh pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent on the basis the victim had "attended near to the defendant's home address" following a "dispute between the parties".

She said the incident took place on April 27 last year, when the victim went to visit Cheryl Morrison, who also lived in the same area as Walsh.

Ms Caples went to Walsh's address after discovering a living room window had been damaged and Ms Snowdon said Walsh "felt genuinely fearful for her safety".

Another neighbour said they "heard raised voices" and "as an argument was taking place Ms Walsh came out of her address with a white kettle in her hand".

They said they heard Ms Walsh say "watch out".

Ms Caples said she then "felt boiling hot water hit the right side of her face and chest" which had sugar in it, although a forensic scientist said the presence of sugar did not increase the intensity of the injury in this case.

Ms Caples was taken to hospital after being left with "facial burns to the right side of her face and scalp" which resulted in scarring.

Walsh, who has no previous convictions, denied inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent in interview after she was arrested at the scene.

She later admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent on the day of her trial.

ECHO readers said they felt 'disgusted' and 'furious' that Walsh walked free from Liverpool Crown Court despite pleading guilty.

Wendy Gerrard said: "No normal person would even think of pouring boiling water over someone, never mind adding sugar to the water. This is disgusting and what is worse is that the judge has again let another criminal off after causing grievous bodily harm and they get away with it. Judge's need to start doing their jobs and locking these criminals up."

Trevor Mclaughlin said: "Absolutely disgusting, she should have went to jail, had it been a man he would have been jailed."

Christine Holmes said: "What is wrong with the justice system she. Needs locking up and her kids put into care or with their dad. You can't go around throwing boiling water with sugar over someone and get away with it how ridiculous. If this was a man he'd be in prison by now."

Dave Crado said: "So if you’ve got kids you can just do what you want now? Sick of seeing reprobates like her getting off with stuff because they’ve threw a few kids out."
