Fury as Glasgow city centre shut down for filming BBC drama Guilt despite lockdown

The BBC has been criticised for shutting down parts of a city centre for filming while residents are being ordered to stay at home due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Actors Mark Bonnar and Jamie Sives will record the second series of the Bafta-winning crime drama Guilt from this weekend.

Over three weeks, beginning tomorrow, parts of Glasgow city centre, Clydeside and roads in the north of the city will be shut to traffic for up to 15 hours a day.

It will lead to detours for drivers, and health workers have been told they may face problems trying to serve vulnerable clients in certain parts of the city.

A former Lord Provost condemned the filming, claiming it “beggars belief”.

Alex Mosson, Lord Provost of Glasgow between 1999 and 2003, said: “Why is it all right for actors and cameramen allowed to go to their work and walk about the streets and cause inconvenience on a huge scale like this? Frankly, it beggars belief the city council should allow this to go ahead.”

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: “Filming is allowed under Scottish Government guidance, and it is the responsibility of production companies to ensure social distancing is practised during this time.”
