Fury as feckless Edinburgh fly-tippers dump contents of a flat in the street

Locals have been left fuming after a fly-tipper dumped the contents of an entire flat on a Gorgie street - including the kitchen sink.

Images shared by anti-littering group Keep Gorgie Clean show a sofa, a rotting mattress and electrical items dumped in the street.

A sink also appears to be have ditched by fly tippers next to the communal waste bins on Newton Street.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Keep Gorgie Clean said residents were fed up of people using the area as a dumping ground.

"Residents are sick and tired of unscrupulous individuals using our home as a dumping ground for personal and commercial waste.

"We clearly have the biggest issue with fly-tipping in the whole city and the resources allocated by the Council to tackle the problem are completely inadequate.

"We need more enforcement action specifically directed to our area including patrols, as well as the deployment of CCTV at dumping hotspots to combat the problem.”

Commenting, one local man said the issue was online getting worse: "It's getting worse not better, the more reported and cleared the more that is dumped."

Edinburgh Council has been contacted for comment, but the rubbish has been reported to the council for uplift.
