Fury as Edinburgh gig shut down minutes before start after positive Covid case discovered

An Edinburgh gig was shut down minutes before it started after positive Covid case was discovered.

Fans had queued down Victoria Street to see Circa Waves perform at the Liquid Rooms on Sunday.

But supporters were booted out five minutes before the band was due to take the stage after one of the touring party had tested positive for coronavirus.

After the audience stood packed in the venue for over an hour the tannoy alerted them to leave immediately, reports Edinburgh Live.

Boos rang out from the crowd as gig goers were asked to "keep their masks on and exit the venue in an orderly fashion."

Since the cancellation of the concert, the band is yet to put out a statement regarding the cancellation or confirm whether they will be continuing their UK tour.

Circa Waves are booked to play the O2 Academy in Glasgow tomorrow (Tues) evening, and many fans are left confused as to whether this gig will go ahead.

One fan on Twitter stated, "We were in the venue. Doors were at 7pm and it was 8.20pm it got cancelled.

"Someone from the touring team had a positive Covid test. I don't know how long it takes for results and I thought lateral flow tests were half an hour.

"I am not sure how late they tested. But what is happening the rest of the tour.

"They are meant to be in Glasgow Tue and get a statement out about if Edinburgh will get rescheduled or a refund. As long as they don't go radio silent I think the majority of people will understand."

Other fans were not so understanding. One fuming fan spoke to Edinburgh Live, stating, "I completely understand why the gig was cancelled, but to pull the plug minutes before? It is a total disgrace.

"Surely they would have tested the band and crew hours before doors opened? I'll certainly be expecting a full refund even though the tickets have technically been used.

"Overall, I am disappointed in the nature of the cancellation, but not the situation itself. I hope the person who tested positive is doing alright, and the band are good, although a statement from them wouldn't go a miss to reassure fans!"

Another posted on Twitter: "F***in gutted @RedRumClub & @CircaWaves got cancelled at 20:25 tonight whilst I was stood in the venue. F*** Covid."

At the time of writing, venue Liquid Rooms and Circa Waves management company are yet to put out a statement regarding this situation.

The Liquid Rooms has been contacted for comment, as well as Circa Waves PR company, Dawbell PR.
