Fury as EastEnders and Corrie go head-to-head in another New Year's time slot clash

Soap fans have been left furious as EastEnders and Corrie are going head-to-head in another time slot clash on New Year's Day.

Bosses behind the two shows have waged war by putting them on at the same time, with EastEnders airing on BBC One at 8pm tonight and Coronation Street on in the same slot over on ITV.

It's the second day in a row the two soaps has been scheduled for the same time after both aired at 7:30pm on New Year's Eve.

The decision has infuriated fans as it forces them to pick one to watch live and risk seeing spoilers for the other.

One tweeted: "Who ever decided to put #Corrie on at the same time as #EastEnders needs a full on kick in the crutch..."

Another added: " #Corrie & #EastEnders on at the same time? That should be made illegal."

A third wrote: " #EastEnders is on at the same time as #Corrie ..."

Christmas and New Year is the most dramatic time of the year for the soaps, with both EastEnders and Corrie teasing massive storylines for tonight's episode.

In the BBC One show, viewers are hoping they will finally find out the fate of Keanu Taylor, who has been missing since Christmas.

He was though to have been murdered by Martin Fowler as part of a plot hatched by the Mitchells to punish him for bedding Sharon behind Phil's back.

Over on ITV, Corrie fans are being treated to a one-hour special as the residents of the Cobbles are still reeling from the bloody shooting at Christmas which killed Robert Preston and gunman Derek Milligan.

There's also trouble for Tracy as she cheats on Steve with Paula. She wakes up with a hangover and realises she's been unfaithful, and it gets worse when Amy realises what's happened.
